GARDEN RULES
-
If you sign up for an individual plot with us, you must attend at least 2 office hours a month.
You do NOT have to be there for the whole 2 hours, but we want to see your face and for you to know other gardeners!
-
Part of the responsibility of having an individual plot is to keep the bed weeded and watered.
Do not do this for other gardeners or ask other gardeners to do this for you, as this creates confusion to ownership of the individual plots.
If you want to weed but your bed is clean, you can weed our communal plots.
-
Plants should not impede walking paths or sunlight from other beds. If we receive a complaint about yours, we will contact you and you will have one week to fix the issue with guidance.
Tidyness is a subjective issue, but if harvest is left too long, weedy seed heads are left on, or other debris which causes complaints from other gardeners, we will contact the owner of the plot.
If no action is taken within one week of contact, we will attempt a second contact. If there is still no action taken after 2 weeks, the plot will be re-assigned and the previous gardeners will be put on low-priority on the sign-up list for next year.
-
Priority of individual garden beds is given to people who do not have access to growing space otherwise residing in Saint Paul. Further priority is given to POC and recent refugees, but discolsure of this information is purely optional.
Human Nature will never give out your demographic information.
-
All fruit trees are considered communal produce. There is a communal plot at Our Village community garden.
Harvest times are ONLY DURING OFFICE HOURS.
-
As our community garden has been a place for individuals struggling with addiction and children, we ask that there is no substance use in the garden.
This includes alcohol, smoking, vaping, intravenous substance use, etc.
Garden staffers carry Naloxone and are trained for use. If you need access to harm reduction resources during garden office hours, you can email xiem@humannaturemn.org .
-
To remain in good standing, you must clean out your garden bed by the Garden Close Date, October 15th. This includes removing of dead plants and any trash or debris.
We expect participation in garden programming at least twice a month throughout the growing season, which is between May 15th and October 15th.
In exchange, seed, plant starters, coaching, water, and space is provided for free.
